This semester at Rice I taught several students from the Shepard School of Music. These folks are amazing! Two of my students got Eric and I tickets to see “The Marriage of Figaro” and we realized that between vocalists we knew from the church choir and my students we knew a 1/2 dozen people participating in this Opera. It was a thrill. I always figured that I’d either hate or love Opera when I got a chance to see it in person; the verdict is a clear “love”. The paired together with getting to see the Houston Ballet’s “La Bayadère” last year are two of my favorite things I’ve gotten to do in Houston. It is an amazing city for “high culture” and I’m grateful to have gotten a chance to partake in it!
